UPV Contributions to the AIAS Project

With the arrival of Ignacio Lacalle Úbeda at FOGUS for his secondment, it’s a great moment to spotlight the vital role of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in the AIAS project. Through its Distributed Real-Time Systems Lab (DRTSL), UPV brings deep technical expertise in cybersecurity, distributed AI, blockchain, and workload orchestration, making it a cornerstone of AIAS’s mission to secure AI systems against adversarial threats.

Core Competencies & Focus Areas

UPV’s contributions span several cutting-edge domains:

  • Cybersecurity & Blockchain: Advancing secure data sharing and decentralized protection models.

Infrastructure & Research Capacity

UPV supports its contributions with top-tier infrastructure, including:

  • On-premise cloud systems with high-performance servers and GPUs.
  • Access to the HPC Center, including multi-node CPU and GPU clusters for large-scale simulations.
  • A dedicated 120m² AI research lab with 20 workstations.
  • A committed research team of 13 experts, focused solely on AIAS activities.

Key Technical Contributions

UPV leads and contributes to several critical AIAS tasks:

🔹 Task 4.1 – Ethical and Fair-Compliant Security Data Fusion and Knowledge Base

  • Develops advanced data processing pipelines to support adversarial AI detection.
  • Builds a centralized data pool of attack scenarios accessible to all AIAS components.
  • Integrates blockchain infrastructure with verifiable credentials, extending the DataPorts H2020 platform.

🔹 Other Contributions:

  • Co-designs AI-powered deception mechanisms.
  • Supports analytics, detection, and explainability in AI-based cybersecurity.
  • Assists in platform integration and seamless inter-module communication.

Knowledge Transfer & Collaboration

UPV leads knowledge-sharing in:

  • Security data fusion for industrial and AI environments

Collaboration with partners like FOGUS enriches UPV’s research, especially in simulation and deception, contributing to advanced adversarial AI defenses.
